Boruch Dayan Ha’emes: R’ Yisroel Shimon Kalmanson
With sadness we inform you of the passing of Reb Yisroel Shimon Kalmanson, of blessed memory, at the age of 98. Reb Yisroel Shimon was the Rebbe’s personal shochet for Kapporos, and would make the Rebbe’s wine for Pesach.
He is survived by his children: Rabbi Mordechai Kalmanson of Crown Heights, Rabbi Sholom Ber Kalmanson; Shliach to Cincinnati Ohio, Mrs. Miriam Blizinsky of Crown Heights, Mrs. Rochel Heber of Crown Heights and Mrs. Beila Greenbaum of Los Angeles.
The Levayah will leave Shomrei Hadas today, Thursday at 1:15 PM, and will pass 770 at 1:45 PM. The family will be sitting Shiva at 568 Montgomery St. [between Brooklyn and New York Ave.]

I remember my mother used to take us to shlug kapporos at some poultry market in East New York a few days before Yom Kippur and Rabbi Kalmanson was there and he shechted the chickens for us right there so we could put the sawdust on. I had no idea what a difficult life he’d had. He seemed really unassuming and hardworking too. Boruch Dayan ha’emes.
