Boruch Dayan Ha’emes: Reb Dovid Malka OBM

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the untimely passing of longtime Crown Heights resident and beloved culinarian Reb Dovid Malka OBM.

There is hardly a heart in Crown Heights that hasn’t been warmed by Reb Dovid’s delicious kugel or his world famous cholent: be they bochurim in Oholei Torah who were fed three hot meals meals every day, hungry beggars who appreciated his warm generosity or mispallelim who enjoyed his catering at their kiddush table Shabbos after Shabbos.

He will be sorely missed, and we send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Reb Dovid is survived by his wife Chana, children; Rabbi Yossi Malka (Tarzana, CA), Nechami Deutsch (Crown Heights), Esti Klein (Florida), Rochel Druk (Cancun, Mexico) and Zisi Malka (Crown Heights), as well as grandchildren.

The Levaya will take place tomorrow, Monday, and will be leaving from the Shomrei Hadas Chapels at 10:00am and passing by 770 at around 10:45am.

very very sad about your leaving us, Thanks for everything and I’m sure you will be looking after us from above. We will miss you. You were a wonderful person and a friend to everyone in CH
we all expected you to be there forever we can’t believe your passing we will always remember you. I remember you with your white van driving always to deliver food to the bochurim to Oholei Torah and I remember the many times I used to go to get last minute stuff because I was either tired or running late from work and had everything ready to pick up from your store even last minute stuff.
I am very sad,we lost a very good compassionate person and I am crying because he was a person who made this world a better place and if we could only see more people to care how he cared for others and the level of Ahavas Yisrael he had…the world,oh! the world would be a much more better place to live…

To his daughters and wife:May Hashem give them the strength to move forward and know of no more sorrow. We are Deeply saddened.

  • How to end this insidious MAGEIFA

according to the Lubavicher Rebbe (to increase safety against all harm including untimely death R”L) the top 3 concrete steps the public can do:
    1) Annual checks on Tfilin & Mezuzos
    2) Jewish self respect, in the form of adherence to jewish-law in modesty
    3) Daily study of Chitas & Rambam

as the Rebbe put it: “the above has an impact on the safety of the whole family & collective safety of the entire community”

the Rebbe’s only motivation (in telling us this SEGULOS for safety) is bec he cares for our own best interest, its NOT ABOUT SELLING RELIGION, but rather how best we can live in this world & be happy healthy & safe!

remember these tips were said to us for our own benefit! by our dear Rebbe! we can trust him!

Boruch HaDayan HaEmes …….. Reb Dovid catered our very quiet chasuna at National Committee’s Hadar HaTorah Yeshiva almost 22 years ago, even though he had barely a week in which to prepare. He gave us a wonderful banquet, fit for royalty, one not to forget. His mitzvos will speak for him at Beis Din shel Ma’alah and will pave his way to a mansion in Gan Eden. May he be a meilitzer yosher for those of us who are left and may his memory be for a blessing. HaMakom Yinachem Eschem…

  • To Yossi from Aaron

    Hello Yossi,

I’m really sorry to hear of your loss.

המקום ינחם אתכם בתוך שאר אבלי ציון וירושלים

I am so sorry to hear this.

I was thinking, last week, of all the people he fed with his delicious food, and the dedication that required. What a mitzvah he performed with his devoted service. He lasted through all the chaggim. And fed everyone who needed this year. May his soul be blessed with a million fold the oneg he gave to others.

So sad to hear it. He was a wonderful person. May he be a gooter better for us and may we all soon be reunited when Moshiach comes.
Many times he and his wife fed my family and many others when we had no money.
We have moved to Israel, but I still miss your warmth and your food.

every week in my house, something about Dovid Malka was mentioned… the salads, the cholent, the family…
it is hard to let go someone, who is part of our family, (he didn’t know how present he was but he was always there…)
We will miss you Dovid, all the ones who has the chance to meet you will miss you.

may we all be more careful in making mayah (100) brochos daly with kavana intent, it is stated that tefila prayer w/o kavana, is like a body w/o a soul, in King David’s time there was a magayfa plague 100 people died every day, and to stop it King David instituted that we make 100 blessings daily with kavana,

MAY WE TAKE A RESOLUTION FOR KING DAVID (Dovid Malka)
that we go King David’s ways and be extra careful to make 100 blessings daily.

to yossi and the entire family
May you be comforted among the avalim of zion and Jerusalem speedily.

For the last ten years I’d receive a box every friday from him. He knew my financial situation and refused to take payment. There was enough to feed my family for the rest of the week. Of course nobody knew. Oh, well. Now I guess I won’t be getting the food delivaries anymore.

Who remembers how Dovid sounded Shofar at the Rebbes Minyan with the Rebbe present in Chodesh Elul upstairs in the zaal back in the late 70’s.

He was a true Ohev Yisrael and Bal Middos Tovos.

Strength to the entire Malkah family
