I am in shock. He is a pure gold. I will tell you just one story. My father worked in a summer camp where Paz was a counselor. On Friday, many campers and counselors approached my father to put on tefillin and he refused. At that time, I myself could never convince him. I came to camp kitchen very close to Shabbos and saw completely surrealistic picture and I was thinking I am dreaming. Paz is putting teffilin on my father, my father is having a big smile. I asked my mother what happened. She said that when Paz approached my father to put on teffilin, my father angrily explained that there is still so much to do before Shabbos, including washing floor in the kitchen and the dining hall. So Paz took off the jacket and washed all the floors. This was long time ago, may be 15 years. Today my father put on his own pair of tefillin everyday – a gradual change that may not have come without this act of absolute emes. But “pure gold” is no longer in this world.
Moshiach Now!!!

It doesn’t feel real to see Pazi’s face on this page. There is a cognitive dissonance I can’t resolve. Although we say, Blessed is the Judge of Truth, I am faced with the untimely, unimaginable truth of his passing. It is hard and painful to reconcile. Everyone that knew him was blessed with a wonderful friend. Always smiling, aways caring, the word “no” was not in his vocabulary. I scrutinize my thoughts as I contemplate Paz’s departing and how it has affected my world. His patience, his insights into Torah, Paz was authentic and inspired in his artistry and words of poetry. Above all we can all learn from his ways, what it meant to be a beloved husband and father. His devotion to his family was exemplary. Paz truly walked in the ways of Torah. Let us all pray and join together in unity supporting Dalia and the boys in what ever way we can. From now until the coming of Moshiach Paz will be dearly missed!
Shocked!
Baruch Daayan Haemes!

At tonight’s Tehillim gathering for the Shusterman’s one reader paused after her chapter to share a certain sentence she read that caught her attention. From her we learned that Paz means more then just Gold…it is what the Almighty considers “Fine Gold”, as the sentence continues to say, more then gold, it is the fine gold that Hashem appreciates from us. When I first met Paz he wore a gold ring in his ear. Some affectionately called him a rock’n’rabbi. One day, sometime later, I noticed it was missing. About a year after that I inquired what inspired him to take it out. It was then that I learned from Paz that he felt if he was going to remove it it would only be as an offering for the building of the Third Beis Hamikdash. Indeed that is where he sent it. Yes, Paz gave not only gold, he offered his “Fine Gold” in all situations both material and spiritual.

Paz taught my son at Yeshiva Ohr Elchonon and although I only met hime a couple of times I felt a real connection with him. He was such a great role model for the kids and I hope that everyone who feels for the family will join me in donating funds towards the welfare of his young and needy family.

I don’t know Paz the way that you all know him, but just to show you how he touched all; I grew up with Paz in Berkeley, California during my day of trying to become famous as a hiphop star. I just remember him as very calm and very much himself in a world that was crazy for us as young adults. He will be missed by many people who hung out on the corner of Durant and Telegraph and freestyle lyrics and talk about everything from politics to religion. I looked on my facebook page and I posted “RIP Paz Shusterman, it’s too soon”! Because it is

no words will do
He was actually 36 years old at his passing, like the Holy Arizal, who’s teachings he studied and lived with daily…the finest gold i’ve ever encountered. the finest.
