Weekly Letter: Supporting Jewish Education

As we begin the new school year – we are sharing a letter to a supporter of Jewish education, in which the Rebbe stresses the great importance of chinuch, using  warm and encouraging words and emphasizing that it be done with gladness of heart.

Mr. ________                                                           5726

London, England

Greeting and Blessing:

I was pleased to receive regards from you, as well as a report of the gathering at which you gave a talk about your visit here. Inasmuch as words coming from the heart penetrate the heart and make their mark, I trust that your message was immediately effective, and will bear even more fruit in the future…

Especially so, given the bearing they have on the subject of our discussion, namely, the great importance of chinuch, it being every person’s duty to play his or her part in this vital field of activity, which knows no limits; where the more one does, the more one is to be praised.

I hope you remember the suggestion which I made to you, for, whether you regard it as official or not, the essential thing is that you consider it your mission and your challenge to support the activities of Lubavitch in London. I am confident that you accepted the suggestion in the spirit that it was conceived, namely, as a heartfelt and momentous mission and not, G-d forbid, as a heavy burden. Consequently, you will go about fulfilling this mission in life with the utmost enthusiasm, inspiration and gratification.

In this connection, I am reminded of the well-known parable: a stranger met a little girl carrying her younger brother on her shoulders on a dusty road on a very hot day. The stranger suggested to the little girl that she put down her heavy load and take a rest. But the little girl replied, “This is not a heavy load; this is my brother.”

Let me add only this to the above, that every one of us has the assurance of our Sages that when he accepts a mission which is bound up with the will of G-d, G-d provides beforehand the powers necessary to the complete fulfillment of this mission, and beyond this, with joy and gladness of heart.

Hoping to receive good news in all your affairs, both personal and general.

With blessing,
