In the statement, released by the White House on September 20, Trump described Yom Kippur as a day that allows Jews to “renew their unwavering relationship with the Creator through fasting, prayer, and charity.” The White House listed the message among its official presidential statements.
Trump also referenced the Torah’s description of Yom Kippur as the “Sabbath of Sabbaths,” noting the significance of the conclusion of the High Holy Days and the traditional belief that the fate of the coming year is inscribed and sealed at this time.
The president’s message further stated that his administration is “resolved to defend every American’s sacred right to freedom of religion.”
“May the Almighty bless you all with renewed strength and abundant faith on this holy day, and may He continue to bless the United States of America,” Trump concluded.
