Confirmed: Pollard to Be Released in November

Attorneys for Jonathan Pollard, who has served nearly 30 years in prison for spying for Israel, said Tuesday the U.S. has granted him parole and he will be released on November 21st.

Pollard, an American, was arrested in November 1985 as he tried unsuccessfully to gain asylum in Israel’s Washington embassy in a sensational espionage case that captivated public attention and stoked passions. He was sentenced to life in prison.

Supporters argued that he was punished excessively given that he spied for a country that’s a U.S. ally. Critics — including prosecutors and government officials — called him a traitor who damaged the nation by disclosing a trove of sensitive documents.

There’s no victory here; this was simply the normal operation of the law. After 30 years he is entitled to parole, and he will not be released even one day before the 30 years are up.

The release of Jonathan Pollard by the Obama administration is just another cheap political ruse. It is the façade of placating the Jewish people but what difference at this point does it make if Jonathan Pollard is released to an Israel that still lives under the dark specter of a military and nuclear dominant Iran? What difference at this point does it make for Pollard to be released when Iran will soon have hundreds of billions of dollars and new economic markets by which it can increase its support to militant Islamic terrorism? Barack Obama’s gesture just means that the Ayatollah and the Iranians will chant, “Death to Israel and Jonathan Pollard too.”

Thats right, they might as well strap him up with a nuke and send him back.

The 0bama administration is not releasing him. The parole commission is, because under the rules in effect when he was sentenced, after 30 years he’s legally entitled to parole unless there’s some reason not to give him it. The administration did not argue against it, simply because it had no argument to make.
