Bramson ORT Reminds Students to Register Before Changes

Federal Aid cut coming this July. Students encouraged to register for Bramson ORT program now:

Four years ago, a unique partnership was developed between Crown Heights and Bensonhurst. Community leaders from Chabad realized that many students in their yeshiva system were not planning on continuing and obtaining smicha and would rather choose a career. There was a need to develop a framework which would allow them to earn the skills to make a respectable parnassah and raise families. Thus, the JTVS program at Bramson ORT College was created.

Students would study in yeshiva in the morning and make their way to the college campus in the afternoon. Bramson ORT offered a nurturing environment to each of these students and catered to the unique needs of the community.

To date, over 60 young men have been through the program. Most of those who completed the program are gainfully employed. In addition, nearly 50% are completing their Bachelors degrees. Many of those who have continued their education are on the dean’s list and maintain GPAs of 4.0. In fact, a good number of them are now applying for advanced degrees in law, business and special ed.

As part of the program, students earn their GED by taking college level courses (which NY State recognizes as fulfilling their GED requirements). The student does not have to take the GED exam! At the end of 16 months, these students complete the program with both their Associates degrees and GEDs in hand, as well as newly developed confidence and maturity which allow them to enter the business world while maintaining their religious standards. M.S. who recently completed his yeshiva education said, “I want to study here because I can receive an education and not change who I am.” B.P. , 56, a melamed for many years, came to Bramson in order to earn his accounting degree. He said,” If I can do it, anyone can.”

Unfortunately, due to a newly approved government appropriations bill, Federal PELL grants will no longer be available to GED students enrolling after this summer (ie after July 1). Anyone currently enrolled in the program and anyone enrolling for the summer will be grandfathered in. These students will be eligible for grants for the entirety of their program. Anyone enrolling starting this fall will be subject to the new regulations. Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to enroll prior to the start of the summer semester on June 6!

Bramson ORT offers Associates degrees and certificates for such in demand fields as: Business, Accounting, Programming, Networking, Graphic Design, Video Game Design, Electronics Technology, HVAC, Home Technology Integration, Renewable Energy and Green Technology, Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, Pharmacy Tech and Paralegal as well as English as a second language courses. It takes approximately 16 months to complete a course of study. Financial aid and scholarships are available to those that qualify. Invest in your future because there is no short cut to a great education.

ahhhhhh, thank you republicans for cutting education.

crown heights will still vote repub because its inane now, but when more cuts come down from a republican administration, we as a community, as a whole, will be hurt and disappointed.

dont say you weren’t warned and that you didn’t know, because here is proof that instead of cutting billions of wasted dollars out of a bloated unnecessary defense budget, repubs chose to cut education.

all we hear are republican vows to cost wasted spending, but here is yet another proof that they are full of it.

  • where is the report on this stroy>?

A Republican lawmaker in New Hampshire was physically removed from the state House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon after he made a Nazi salute during a contentious debate about limiting what is considered valid voter identification.

Rep. Steve Vaillancourt (R-Manchester) shouted, “Sieg Heil” and moved his hand in the air after House Speaker William O’Brien (R-Mont Vernon) restricted what he could address during a floor debate on an amendment to a state voter ID bill.

Ahum Obama who is the current President is a Democrat. I must say you play his game well, blame, blame blame. Your ignorance is stunning.

  • Positive Take

    Let’s count the positives
    1. Students who get in for the summer will still be ok as will those continuing their education
    2. TAP is still available
    3. I know a lot of students who’ve been through this program and it has truly changed their lives. A bunch are doing phenomenally well in four year schools- even though they had no direction before joining Bramson.

  • Bramson student

I am a Bramson ORT student. I love it here and am sad to read about the change. I wish other people would take advantage of this awesome program. I will be graduating soon from the graphic design program and look forward to great opportunities.

The only people it affects are the GED student. You do not have to be a student to get your GED. Pick up a book study for a couple of weeks and take the exam. It is not that hard. Nobody is asking you for a college lever algebra or knowledge of some fancy books. Basics are all you need. Person can get ready in as much as two weeks. It has been done.

@ #2 Whoever cut this program did the right thing. People are paying taxes so their children can go to school a get the school diploma. This was a huge loop hole in the system allowing people to get GED, an equivalent of school diploma and actually get paid for doing so. Democrats are depleting the government and this country.

say that to the hundreds of crown heights young men who want a college education but because of a non existing english education have to struggle to get one…you obviously don’t have a clue…
