Williamsburg Boy Rescued from Roll-Up Gate

A young Jewish boy, about 6 or 7 years old, was saved in the nick of time from the clutches of an automatic roll-up gate yesterday. The dramatic rescue occurred at around 6:00pm Thursday in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The boy was immediately hospitalized and is currently listed in stable condition.

The accident occurred as the boy was holding on to the gate, when it suddenly began to roll up. His head and one arm got stuck in the metal as it went up.

Firefighters used tools and an air bag to stretch the metal and free the boy. Witnesses said it took about 15 minutes to free him.

A similar incident occurred in Crown Heights back in 2006, when a 3-year-old boy was trapped in a similar gate on Kingston Ave. and saved in the nick of time by Shomrim volunteers.
