Flatbush Car Burning May Have Been Insurance Scam

NY Daily News

Police have told community leaders that car firebombings that rattled a Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn were probably an insurance scam, and not a hate crime, the Daily News has learned.

Vandals on Nov. 11 torched three cars in Midwood, tried to set a fourth afire and scrawled messages of hate — swastikas, KKK and “**** the Jews” — on a nearby van and benches.

The pre-dawn incident led to denunciations from Mayor Bloomberg and other elected officials.

To date, there have been no arrests and police have not definitively ruled out any motive.

But police sources said investigators now believe the graffiti was probably scrawled in a ruse to make the firebombings look like an act of hate.

Another source said investigators are “pretty certain” the cars were torched so someone could collect insurance money.

Surprise, surprise. I predicted something like this at the time. Not specifically the insurance angle, but that it was likely to turn out not to have been motivated by antisemitism. In my experience the majority of “hate crimes” turn out not to be.

It’s not worth the headache for a measley insurance scam, forget it buddy… PURE UNADULTERATED WICKED ANTI SEMITIC CRIME RIGHT IN THE HEART OF JEWISH DIXIE

  • no money in new car insurance claim

their is NO money in claiming a new luxury car!! if it was an old car then they could make money!!

  • huh?

WHAT THE H*** the only way it was an insurance thing was if it was a business or a personal owner. no one else would benefit from an insurance scam.

Hmmm..sounds like a really dumb scam – parking four vehicles near each other and torching them all together for insurance?

Next time get inspiration from the pros over at the Creedmoorer blog. They do scams so big that the US Government has to print more money to bail out the insurance companies – you know, like Social Security, the bank rescues and AIG but their scams are funnier.

  • Milhouse-s experience

Milhouse wrote, “In my experience the majority of “hate crimes” turn out not to be.” That makes me wonder of the kind of experience he has had?

Is Milhouse a stakeholder in our Criminal Justice System (e.g., Law Enforcement or Criminal Litigation)?

Does Milhouse have actual first-hand experience with the majority of “hate crimes” (e.g. either as a victim or perp)?

I seek clarification of the factual basis for such a bald and sweeping claim or is it simply repeating what was heard in the mikveh?

#6, my experience is the same as that of anyone who pays attention to the news. Most people don’t.
