Sarkozy Tells Obama, ‘Netanyahu Is a Liar’

French President Nicholas Sarkozy and Barack Obama re-learned a lesson about foreign diplomacy: speak softly and make sure your microphone is turned off before you bad-mouth Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and call him “a liar.”

After holding a presser at the G20 conference in Cannes Thursday, Obama and Sarkozy retreated to another room for a private conversation that turned out to be a very public faux pas.

During the three minutes of conversation broadcasted to present reporters and politicians, Obama first criticized Sarkozy for backing the Palestinian bid for statehood in Unesco, and later Sarkozy let his personal dislike for Netanyahu out of the bag

“I cannot stand him. He’s a liar,” Sarkozy was clearly heard saying.

Obama’s quick retort wasn’t flattering, either.

“You’re fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!” Obama said.

Details about the world leaders’ tête-á- tête were slow to surface, and as some reports allege, journalists were requested to keep quiet and agreed to not publish the diplomatically sensitive comments.

    It’s amazing how people always look for the negative.

    According to Chabad forklore, Obama only helps Isreal because the rest of his party supports Israel. Here we see him take a private stance, and all we wish to hear is his criticism. Publishing this news is another way of telling Obama not to support us in private as it will always be perceived negatively.

    In addition, he didn’t say that he hates or dislikes Israel. He didn’t even say that he dislikes Bibi. In fact, all he may have meant is that the peace process is a pain to deal with, especially for a president with a failing economy, but that’s not a reason to vote against Israel.

    So, if we don’t even know for sure that he is criticizing Israel, why are we judging him? Are we trying to make enemies?
