A Monsey man believed to have left his 2-year-old daughter inside a parked car for two hours during Friday’s record-breaking heat is facing misdemeanor endangerment charges.

The girl was taken to Nyack Hospital about 2 p.m. after one of her parents called Hatzolah Ambulance to report the girl had been left in the vehicle as it was parked in their driveway, Ramapo police Detective Sgt. Brian Corbett said. The toddler was not seriously harmed during the incident.

Corbett said police believe the windows to the car had been cracked open. The detective was not sure if the girl had been fastened in a car seat or if she was free to move about.

Police arrived at the hospital’s emergency room, where an investigation led to the arrest of the girl’s father, Joel Stein, 31, of West Maple Ave.

Corbett said Stein’s alleged actions appear to have been inadvertent .

“He had been running errands, got back to the house and forgot that he had left his daughter in the car,” Corbett said.

Police were unsure of what temperatures were reached inside the car, but according to Accuweather, temperatures in the hamlet reached between 94 and 97 degrees during the two-hour stretch from 12 and 2 p.m. Real feel temperatures in the area were between 107 and 109 degrees.

Stein was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree reckless endangerment, misdemeanors.

A telephone message left at his West Maple Avenue home Friday evening was not returned.

Stein was released without bail. He is to appear in Ramapo Town Court at 2 p.m. Aug. 2.

Corbett said the girl was later released from Nyack Hospital to the custody of her parents. Investigation into the case remains ongoing.

Ramapo police were assisted by Rockland’s Child Protective Services office.

There are no excuses. This is a child. He is lucky to be charged with only a misdemeanor.

Ridiculous. The father is lucky to be released, pending laying charges. BH The child is ok, but another hour or two, would have far reaching tragic results. FOR SHAME FOR SHAME FATHER STEIN. I hope you have learned your lesson BIT TIME Bro

#1, you are wrong, this can happen chas vesholom to ANYONE. Even you. It’s a well-documented phenomenon, a glitch in memory. The incidence is much higher since people started putting car seats in the back seat instead of next to the driver, because of the air bag. Once the kid is in the back, you can forget that she’s there, and the results can be terrible. Boruch Hashem in this case nothing happened, but many perfectly good and normal parents have suffered the ultimate loss r”l, and then had to face criminal charges on top of it, because people don’t understand how easily this can happen. May it never happen to any of us.

It’s literally a miracle that child is alive. Baruch Hashem. Imagine what could have happened!I know, as a parent, that things can get hectic… but to forget your child for TWO HOURS??? I have no doubt that the inside of a car on a day like Friday could reach 150 degrees F! I have a 2-yr-old and on a 90 degree day, I let the car cool off for ten minutes minimum before I put my child inside! PLEASE, parents, watch your children carefully! The majority of weather-related deaths are caused by heat!

This guy got off lucky. The Pinter family of Lakewood about 15 years ago were not as fortunate. Left baby in car and it probably took less than an hour. Here at least the windows were a crack open, it seems.

B”h the child was ok. That’s all I have to say. I try to make it a habit not to leave my child in the car ever. When he was a baby I always took him out first for fear of leaving him by mistake (or even having someone see him in the car and deciding to call CPS.

I have forgotten my child before. They fall asleep, you are tired and distracted, running errands, out of the routine, and the other kids are with the other parent. So you forget. It is a terrible terrible feeling. Thankfully nothing bad has come of it for me. But my heart goes out to others who have had less fortunate results.Someone need to come up with some kind of safety alarm so that this situation does not happen EVER/
