Affordable Health Plan to End for 450,000 New Yorkers

As many as 450,000 New Yorkers will lose affordable healthcare coverage at the end of the month after federal funding cuts.

New Yorkers who were enrolled in the state’s Essential Plan and make between $31,920 and $39,900 annually are expected to lose coverage on July 1 because of President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Residents who meet other income requirements are still expected to keep their coverage for the foreseeable future.

The Essential Plan is an insurance program by the New York State of Health that provides coverage for residents between 19 and 64-years-old who may earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to pay for private insurance. It offers comprehensive benefits with $0 monthly premiums and no deductible.
