BDE: Mrs. Shternie Vogel, 55, OBM

With great sadness we report the passing of Mrs. Shternie Vogel OBM, a shlucha from Postville, Iowa. She passed away on Friday Shvi’i Shel Pesach, 5782, following an extended illness.

She was 55 years old.

Mrs. Vogel was born in Montreal, Canada, to Rabbi Sholom Ber and Leah Gurkov.

Soon after her marriage to Rabbi Yisroel Noach Vogel, the couple moved on shlichus for several years to Bogotá, Colombia, where they served as shluchim for seven years.

They later moved to Postville, Iowa, where they served as the first shluchim to the area.

Mrs. Vogel was the devoted secretary of the Chabad Cheder and was involved hosting and feeding bochurim of the yeshivah for decades. She was known for her love and dedication to the students.

She also served as the mikvah director and attending for the local Postville women’s mikvah for many years, devoting her time and energy to ensure the highest standards.

She is survived by her parents Rabbi Sholom Ber and Leah Gurkov, her husband Rabbi Yisroel Noach Vogel, and their children Chaya Risa SimmonsAizik Vogel and Mendel Vogel.

She is also survived by her siblings Rivky Stillerman (Crown Heights), Faigie Gurkov Hilel (Montreal, Canada), Malkie Junik (Crown Heights), Mendy Gurkov (Montreal, Canada), Levi Gurkov (Oceanside, NY), Nechama Dina Sirota (Nachalat Har Chabad, Eretz Yisroel), Meir Gurkov (Pomona, NY), Eliezer Gurkov (Pomona, NY), and Chaya Gurkov (Montreal, Canada).

The levaya will take place today, Sunday, passing by 770 at approximately 3:00pm. Kvurah at Old Montefiore Cemetery at 4:00pm.

Shiva will take place at 507 Crown St. (between Kingston and Albany).

    Shternie Vogel was so humble and such an aishes chayil. My husband and I, along with our children, will miss her so much. Ad mosai!
