Much speculation has gone into why was there hundreds of police vehicles lined up on Kingston Ave. and Eastern Pkwy. on Friday last week and the past two days, some reported it being “an added police presents due to a rise in crime” or “Police always perform these drills across the city”. This drill was infact titled a ‘general exercise’ which was a city wide anti terror and readiness drill in which cars from precincts around the city participated in.

Both 770 and the Jewish Children’s Museum are considered terror targets, and may be one of the reasons the drill was performed here.

as a vey good freind told me,

they are learning how to fight terror
but when it comes to fighting crime…

    hmmmm…

They should do this drills more often and prefferably late evening time and in various CH locations.

This will help crime situation a bit.

    i was there!

it looked like a whole bunch of buldosers trying to invade!!!!!!!

i mean it was really cool!

Maybe now today you understand why there was the drill, for look what happened in England.

  • New York Ave

The NYPD conducts mobilztion drills at diffrent high profile locations at any given time they could be in Brooklyn today and Manhttan tommorow. The NYPD does this to scare the terroist so they are always one step in front of them this was started after 9/11. I also see that D.I. Vega is still in the 71st PCT they need to sack him and replace him with a mop. I’ve heard cops call D.I. Vega hitler behind his back in the 71st PCT.

I saw it at night and it was cool but they didnt get out of their cars so whats the point? Anyway I dont think they really want to protect us.

Ahhhh, New York’s finest in uniform. They look pretty good but not as good as our brave young IDF!

Your picture of the cops out side Bais Rabainu is a classic!

It’s warming to know that we have a phenomenal police presence (I hope not just temporary) in the Shchuna aspecialy after experiencing such traumas and tragedies in our community of Kahan Tziva, May Hashem guard us from such terrible acts against humanity!

May we be Zoiche to Moshiach tzidkanu beguf Gashmy. Omain!

  • live in CH & loving it.

After reading ALL your comments on the crown Heights incident, I’l like to comment on them. First, the English is bad news. Just suem wrote, people are too busy suing Dovid Fisher…. The fact is he has contributed immensely to the machlokos in CH. my own family has suffered tremendously at his hands and didn’t dare sue him because we were told "he’s bought off the judge you won’t get to first base". But I’m willing to wait for the one above to take care of him and his ilk.
Re Mad River’s comment, You must be blind or living in a fools paradise if you don’t see the reality of the lack of proper protection CH residents get from the police. I have been ticketed for not moving my car at ONE MINUTE PAST ELEVEN but when my car was broken into or I witnessed a child get hit by a car I was told by the precint "we have no available cops at the moment, when one becomes available we’ll send him over". Sorry the police are driving their own wedges between them and the residence.
As far as Chanina goes, he is full of hot air,but fits in perfectly as a council member because they are all inept. In other Jewish neighborhoods the council does EVERYTHING to help it’s residents in crown height the council does EVERYTHING to help themselves and sometimes by accident the residents might grudgingly benefit.
politically ilncorrect wrote, 911 doesn’t care about Jews. Wake up and smell the coffee NOBODY cares for the Jews, Thats why WE HAVE TO CARE FOR EACH OTHER!
Finally, Sara wrote, regarding 911 and letting the perp go. Two wrongs don’t EVER make one right. Regardless of the fact that maybe (for arguments sake)the cops were right about calling them first, the perp still committed a felony and should be held accountable for that. If in fact he was beaten before the cops showed up (as they do themselves whenever they can get away with it) that should have been dealt with as a seperate issue. But, allowing him to go scott free is setting a precident that it’s okay to commit a crime and get away with it.
Yes, in williamsburg or Boro Park the Jewish residents would have rioted and torn down the police station. But that is not our derech B"H but at the same time it doesn’t mean that we should not protest such an incident by writing to the mayer and other means including some of the radio shows that deal with public problems.
On a more pleasant note. There is a beautiful shul in Crown Heights named Beis Levi Yitschak where one can meet so many nice people of crown heights. it is a shul that started one year ago and whoever comes in there is made to feel welcome, is not sized up and there is NO POLITICS at all. there seems to be the unspoken rule of live and let live and it therefore seems to draw people to it like a magnet.

A NYPD officer’s responsibility is to protect all citizens of NYC. Whether they want to or not is irrelevent.

  • Dovid

You are wrong about Chanina. He gets photos with the NYPD Commissioner, they take his calls, he knows the Mayor and Governor. He is more powerful than Devorah Halberstam. He was close by the Rebbe as a non=bochur and has speech like Moshe Rabbeinu. Chanina can make the police stop crime becaue they listen to him He is the answer to the community’s needs.

Yes, I am a BLY regular and the above is 1000% true. Come and see for yourselves! (566 Crown Street is the official address but the entrance is the ramp on Albany Ave opposite Lubavitch Yeshiva).

Also, does anyone know why Empire Boulevard was closed off and heavily patrolled up to Brooklyn Ave this past Shabbos at about 3.30? Was that also part of the anti-terrorism drill or was it a roadblock to catch a perp? The latter looked more like it to me.
