This past Friday a black male brought that above mentioned cell phone into the Cingular store asking to buy a charger and to sign up for service. The manager upon recognizing the cell phone, called the owner asking him to come down to the store to confirm that it was his phone. Needing to buy time until the owner arrived to identify the phone, the manager told the customer that “we need to wait for the phone to be fully charged and ensure its working properly, before we can sign you up for service” .
When the owner arrived he identified the phone as being his, and in turn the police were called. The police arrived on the scene and spoke to the man who claimed he bought the phone from a guy on Kingston & Fulton and knew it was stolen. The cop asked him if he was aware that he can get arrested for doing so, to which he replied “yes”. The cops then let him go, and returned the phone to its owner.
Stolen Phone Makes Its Way Back To Owner
Three weeks ago a member of the community had his car window broken into and his cell phone stolen from the glove compartment. He filed a police report, and went to the Cingular store on Kingston Ave, and asked the manger to call him if his phone makes its way there.

ENRAGED
They arrest a guy for double parking, and trying to reason with a cop, but a guy with stolen possession they let go, you know he can be the guy who broke into the car.
You are suppose to ARREST HIM and INVESTIGATE, but why should the cops do that? how will it generate revenue?
ARREST HIM!!!!!
yeah i agree with ‘ENRAGED’, if the cops said "he can be arrested for doing so" then why wasn’t he, you just let the perp go with just a small chat. What message would that send to all these potential ‘ganovim’, that you can steal whatever you want, just dont get cought with it, and if you get cought; claim you bought it "from a guy on Nostrand Ave" and you scot free!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?
Disappointed
Congrats to the cell phone store for going through all the trouble, and then to have the police let him go free is really disappointing.

Wher is our Vaad hakohol? The police are playing with us. For a double parking a Jew is arrestred. For dealing in stolen goods a -non-jew is let go!
As long as our community leaders are intersted in pushing their personal agendas the city government will see this and treat us with disdain(zizlul)
The time has come to elect honest upright leaders who are sonei betza and only interested in helping the community.
not from around here.....
This is absolutely incredible … I agree with the above posts… double park go to jail, steal and lie get off scot free. This behavior will continue as long as criminals get away with it. The cops seem to have a hard time finding other criminals, then when one is in their possesion they let them go !!!
Isn’t there anyone that you can file a complaint with ??
been there
There probably was little the cops could do, because of laws of evidence. Then they also wouldn’t be able to return the phone immediately to the owner, bec of evidence, etc
What they couldve/shouldve done if they were detectives, was to go back w the buyer to where he bought it to catch the original ‘ganif’/ But the cops get lazy, and dont go beyond their job description
I had a similar situation and when I called the cops that my phone was stolen, they said, ‘forget it, just cancel the service’ they wouldn’t even follow any leads I gave them (I called the phone and spoke to the ‘new owner’ of my phone!)

I spoke to the Manager who confirmed the information I put up, I did have to change the location where he bought the phone, its Kingston & Fulton, not Nostrand.
