Attention All Drivers and Passengers.
A zero tolerance campaign on buckling up will get underway this Memorial Day weekend.
New York state troopers, sheriff’s deputies and local police statewide will set up checkpoints and dedicating more patrols to enforcement of the seat-belt law. State Police Commander Peter Person says the Buckle Up New York Campaign will last through June 5.
During last year’s crackdown, 820 checkpoints were held and more than 56,000 seat-belt citations were issued.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor-vehicle crashes kill more than 42,000 people in the United States every year.
We are asking everyone, please dont be caught without a seatbelt. Not only will it save you a fine, but it may also save your life.
Please make sure that not only you, but also your passengers wear their seatbelts.
Recent surveys indicate more than 85 percent of drivers statewide use seat belts.
