Second Alarm Fire Destroys President Street House

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A fast moving fire tore through a home on President Street at around 11:00pm last night, Sunday. Many of the occupants were forced to jump from the windows to escape the flames. The fire quickly spread to all floors in the house and forced FDNY to elevate the fire to a ‘two alarm fire’.

911 received many calls alerting them to the fire. However in the confusion, a number of different addresses and locations were given. Therefore it took FDNY longer to respond, but with much more than normal amount of trucks and ladders.

Reports said that residents were seen jumping from the second and first floor windows to escape the flames and smoke.

The house located at 1263 President Street, on the corner of New York Avenue, is home a non Jewish family. They were left with nothing but the pajamas on their backs, with some lucky ones wearing slippers. In a big kidush hashem, Jewish neighbors opened their homes to them and offered them shelter from the rain and cold.

CrownHeights.info has received numerous eyewitness reports stating; a Jewish neighbor ran into the burning house and helped people escape, in the first kidush hashem of the night.

Thankfully there were no serious injuries reported, during the entire incident.

It is unclear what exactly started the fire and even where it originated from. Fire marshals were ordered in to investigate.

    the name of the hero was tzvi spilman who lives across the street, he was the first on the site he heard a womam screeming he ran across the street and helpdd 2 people out from the house

    Yea forget that these people’s homes were burnt down the only thing crown heights dot info wants to bring out that it made the jews look good damn care about somebody else for a change!

    to “mt” they have more pictures of this because one of “their” people was in the area and had a camera and uploaded the pictures right away. they only have few pictures of the “shluchims peulos” because the shluchim are far away and only email them few pictures. the more pictures you email the more they put up.
    and to “Leon Krayzman” it is a beautiful thing that Reb Tzvi ran INTO A BURNING HOUSE putting HIMSELF in UTMOST DANGER to help others who happen to be not Jewish. DO NOT diminish the Kiddush Hashem. I am sure the family is devastated that their house is burnt and would appreciate donations but I am SURE that they are extremely grateful to Reb Tzvi that he assisted and could even be directly responsible for them being alive today. so dont hate. appreciate. relax!

    This is a reminder to all people who own homes to make sure that their home is insured for the CURRENT VALUE of the home not what you paid for it. If this person brought the home years ago and had a $100,000 policy – that’s what they will get, nothing more. You have to make sure your home is fully insured for its current value so either you can take the money and fix up the damage or buy a new home of equal value.
