I THINK IT’S A WONDERFUL THING THAT THEY HAVE SOME SORT OF CLASSES FOR MELAMDIM. THE GIRLS GO TO SEMINARY FOR TRAINING BUT FOR SOME REASON THERE IS NOTHING FOR THE MEN. THERE SHOULD ACTUALLY BE SOME SORT OF COURSE, EVEN IF IT’S FOR 3 – 6 MONTHS. JUST TO GIVE THE GUYS SOME TIPS ON METHODS ETC.

    To Retired teacher:

A melamed replaces the father in teaching the child. No one is trained in Fatherhood.

More importantly, Melamdim should have “expiration dates”, requiring mandatory retirement. Fathers that reach seniority age, no longer deal with young children (unless it is einiklech). Neither should Melamdim.

Many Melamdim are past their expiration date in Chinuch. You wouldn’t want them as your son’s camp counsellor. You shouldn’t get them as his Rebbe.
