  i was on a flight from london to new york several years ago and i was surprised to see reb aaron rubashkin sitting in the back of the plane flying economy. im sure at the time he was able to afford to fly at least business class. it shows on the person. the rubashkins like everyone else are far from being perfect, but they make a big effotr to do alot of good.

  Please keep away from the press. You will only make the Judge and prosecuter angry. It is important to try and settle these matters quietly. If a jury hears this case the jury will be told by the prosecuter that they have seen the evidence the prosecuter presented and heard the testimony of the government witnesses and that the government witnesses are testifying to get a lower sentence is generally not relevant to the jury. A jury is told the law and told to decide yes or know was a law broken; intent here seems of no relevance. The worst enemy of the defendant is PUBLICITY; in the governments mind it is only about the specific charges; calling it a witch hunt, even if it is, will not only be counter productive it will bring a harsher outcome: in virtually every case. The only way to get the best outcome is to negotiate a lower charge and not antagonize the legal system in any way. We see from the published accounts of the bail amount that the government is quite angry; do not intimidate them.

  I don’t know what prompted the comment to stay away from the press, but I think that is good advice in general. My experience with the press has been that they have no compunctions or conscience, and will smile and play along and then scurry along to twist and distort your words to hurt you.

  That having been said, I wouldn’t presume to give the same advice as Getzel(?) above.
