Community Invited to Virtual Meeting on Grand Army Plaza Redesign Project

Residents of Crown Heights and the surrounding neighborhoods are invited to participate in an upcoming virtual presentation by the NYC Department of Transportation regarding the future of Grand Army Plaza and the surrounding public spaces.

The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will provide an update on the “Grand Army Plaza Capital Study,” an initiative focused on improving safety, pedestrian access, cycling connections, and park accessibility around one of Brooklyn’s busiest and most historic intersections.

The presentation will be held via Zoom and is geared toward residents of Brooklyn Community Boards 6, 7, 8, 9, and 14 — including many members of the Crown Heights community who regularly travel through the area for work, shopping, recreation, and family activities.

According to NYC DOT, the study aims to “re-envision the public spaces around Grand Army Plaza,” with several key goals guiding the project:

– Prioritizing pedestrian safety and accessibility

– Creating stronger cycling connections

– Connecting nearby park spaces

Enhancing overall traffic and public safety

Grand Army Plaza serves as a major gateway between Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Park Slope, and Prospect Park, making the project especially relevant for local residents and families who frequent the area.

Community members are encouraged to attend the meeting and share their feedback as plans move forward.

Residents wishing to participate can register in advance for the Zoom presentation through the NYC DOT project page. Accessibility accommodations are also available through the department upon request.

For more information, community members can visit the NYC DOT Grand Army Plaza project website.
