Unheard of Affordable Housing Lottery Available In Crown Heights
by CrownHeights.info
Every time a building launches an affordable housing lottery in Crown Heights, people laugh, and it really is a joke. This one though, is the real deal.
The Crown Gardens Mitchell-Lama Co-Op, located at 1185 Carroll Street on the corner of Nostrand Ave, has affordable housing condos available for purchase, and the housing is actually affordable!
According to the Housing Connect website, there are studio, 1 bed, 2 bed, and 3 bed condos available, with income limits between ~$37k to ~$235.
The catch? There really aren’t any.
For a three-bedroom condo, the sale price is between $45,286 – $48,030, with monthly maintenance fees of just $1,423 – $1,614. This is nearly unheard of in NYC.
Occupancy requirements are not only reasonable, but fit for a small Jewish family. Studio and one-bedroom are for one to three people. Two-bedroom apartments are for two to four people, and three-bedroom apartments are for four to six people. A single parent with two children remains eligible for a three-bedroom apartment, regardless of gender.
This is a once-in-a-decade deal for the Crown Heights area.
Deadline to apply is December 1st.

Update: There are only a few units available in this lottery. The units are ONLY for owners living in them. Renting is NOT permitted.

The catch is you may have to walk up and down many stairs on Shabbos.
