Helmet Giveaway In Crown Heights To Promote Safety

Interborough Developmental Consultation Center (IDCC) will be hosting a Connect & Share event this afternoon on Kingston Avenue in front of Apple Drugs at 3PM-5:30PM. together with NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) to bring traffic and bike safety to the community as well as information about their mental health clinic.

IDCC is a full service mental health clinic which offers therapy/counseling and psychiatry starting at age 5 years old. They also offer case management, peer and wrap around services such as benefits and vocational services. In addition there is an excellent substance abuse program, LSA Recovery Inc., for ages 16 and up, which is a medically supervised outpatient chemical dependency treatment program that provides services to individuals as well as family members seeking help and support with substance abuse and chemical dependence. The LSA Peers are very personalble and can accompany clients to appointments, offer wrap around services, counseling and also vocational education.

IDCC also works to do outreach in the community to gauge what are the most pressing issues impacting the community and then try to implement events and programming to address these issues.

Today we will be tabling to share our information and answer questions you might have and we will be partnering with the DOT to share traffic safety tips in addition to giving out Bike Helmets which will be fitted by DOT staff. Supplies are limited so first come first serve. Children must be present to relieve a helmet.

If you have any questions about IDCC, feel free to email alipkind@interborough.org

Thank you to the organizers, Arna Lipkind from IDCC for putting this small but impactful event together and partnering with the NYC DOT. I believe you gave out 30 bike helmets to community members who needed them. I was impressed also how the DOT staff fitted people carefully and gave them tips about the helmets in addition to other safety information. We need more of this
