Major Change Coming To Medicaid Based Health Insurance Plans April 1st

As of April 1st, 2023, a major change is coming to Medicaid based health insurance plans including Fidelis Care, the most widely used health insurance in the Crown heights Jewish community.

“Starting April 1st, 2023, your prescriptions will not be covered by Fidelis Care,” a letter sent to participants in the program said. “They will be covered by Medicaid NYRx, the Medicaid Pharmacy program.”

The change, initiated by the State, moves all pharmacy Medicaid claims to the New York State Medicaid Pharmacy program, NYRx, which covers medically necessary FDA approved prescription and non-prescription drugs for Medicaid members.

The change will not require much change on the part of the plan participants, with either your Medicaid or Fidelis card being sufficient at the pharmacy. Pharmacies also appear to not be a problem, with all the major Crown Heights pharmacies listed as being available for use with the program.
