Sefer Torah in the Memory of Mark and Lina Tovshteyn

Chaim and Eli Tovshteyn are dedicating Torah scroll in the memory of their parents, Mark and Lina Z’’L.

As reported earlier on Crownheights.info, they both contracted at the same time, and fell from, COVID during last Adar, one week apart, after spending 56 years together:

Immediately after the shiva, the Tovshteyn’s brothers began writing a Mayan Yisroel Community Torah Scroll in honor of their beloved parents to commemorate their first Yahrtzeit. It will be a great joy for them if members of our dear Anash community will be able to join this mission.

Lina and Mordechai were selfless in their devotion to their children. Despite well-established careers in Odessa, Ukraine, they gave them up to ensure their children’s success in a Torah based environment, free from religious persecution. They left everything behind, all the comforts of home to start their lives anew. They were always happy about this because they knew it was best for the children.

Despite being deprived of a Jewish education and experiencing much anti-Semitism, their Jewish identity remained firm and Jewish pride only increased. With such inspiration and guidance, it was not a surprise that their children, and themself, joined the Chabad movement in Odessa and committed to our Jewish roots.

Lina and Mordechai may have come into this world deprived of Torah knowledge, but they left this world with a proud legacy of children and grandchildren immersed in Torah life and study, an Eitz Chaim – Tree of Life – that has indeed blossomed and given many fruits. This is why Torah scroll dedication means so much to their children.
