HPD Inspectors Visit Crown Heights While Moonlighting As COVID Regulators

by CrownHeights.info

For the fourth time in two weeks, Crown Heights was randomly chosen to have a visit from inspectors looking to give summonses for COVID restriction violations.

The “inspectors,” simply members of the NYC Department of Buildings and Housing Police, went store to store looking for COVID compliance including mask use, social distancing, and dining regulations. To say the least, their reception was less than cordial.

These inspectors were shoved into the limelight over the past few weeks after descending on the “Red Zone” of Boro Park and Faltbush, handing out $15,000 fines for perceived violations. AT present, Crown Heights is not in any “Zone”.

Yesterday, an inspector walked into a restaurant on Coney Island Ave and decided to give a summons simply because the owner had allowed him to walk into the store.

The targeted and abusive enforcement has become a national story, with many government officials calling on the US Department of Justice to take a stand and stop the abuse.
