Volunteer first responders from across New York City came together for an evening of training sponsored by Councilman Chaim Deutsch. The evening focused on homeless intervention, mental health issues prevalent among the homeless, and how to help them get the services they need.
The event was attended by Crown Heights Shomrim volunteers including Gadi Hershkop, a coordinator for Crown Heights Shomrim.
Speaking at the event was Councilman Chaim Deutsch, as well as members of NYC’s Department of Homeless Services.
Homelessness is a large issue in NYC, with over 63,000 homeless New Yorkers, and 1 in 10 school children labelled as homeless.
