Fire Breaks Out in Home of Crown Heights Rov

A fire broke out in the Montgomery Street home of Crown Heights’ senior rov, Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba, leaving the rov – and another family renting out their bottom floor – in need of a place to stay only a couple of hours before Shabbos.

The FDNY arrived with an ‘all hands response,’ including two ladders, two engines and the chief, as well as an ambulance.

Thankfully, no one was hurt, and the blaze was quickly brought under control. The fire caused little damage, but the home sustained heavy damage due to the shattered windows and broken doors caused by the firefighters’ axes.

The fire was reportedly caused by an unclean dryer vent in the apartment which the rov was renting out.

This is the second ‘dryer fire’ on Montgomery Street in three months. Dryer vents must be cleaned periodically to prevent the build up of lint, which can be ignited by a spark from the dryer and cause a fire.

Moishe, for your stupid comment you should do the following. 1)Look at your right hand.
2)Extend it as far out as possible.
3)Bring it back to your face as strong as possible.
    4)Cry like a little girl.

    Any questions, repeat steps 1-3

#4, what has a farher got to do with seniority? R Osdoba is the senior rov. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact, and you have no right to your own facts.

The tenants are a kollel couple who recently married and now have wet possessions and are homeless. Can anyone help please?

  • Poor couple...

The young couple living down stairs have been married for all of 5 months and have now been left homeless with major damages to all their property from the fire, the water and of course smoke. Both their parents are shluchim and live very far and in another country.
Yes, they got out alive BH but, they are left with not very much. beds, linen, furniture, clothes, household stuff all got ruined.
Any one who wishes to help them can do so by contacting her aunt Devorah Golomb at 718-467-1986.
No one should have to go through such an ordeal as newlyweds living far from family and support.

I am sorry to hear about this – no one wants a fire at their home. I pray for a quick recovery.

  • Change plastic vent hose

    DEAR Schuna Residence
This is the third fire because of clooged dryer vent hose

Go to pace hardware on Empire – get the approved dryer metal vent hose.
the lint collects in the bottom of the dryer over time it ignites by the flame that heats the air to dry the clothes the fire catches the lint it burns to the vent hose then the plasic vent hose catches fire and burns out side the dryer machine causing a real fire in your house

  • Seniority

What has this event to do with his seniority and if he wasn’t the ‘senior Rov’ will it make a difference? His name would be enough to identify him. A prominent jew had a fire R”L why bring her politics?

the fire was not caused by an unclean dryer vent.the drummer in the dryer simply broke causing the spinner to stop while machine in motion. the machine then caught fire
