Brooklyn Median Rent Now Comparable to Manhattan

$2,890. No, this is not the average mortgage payment; it is now the median level for rent in Brooklyn, which is up more than 11.6% since just last year.

The New York Daily News reports that in the past few years Brooklyn has become a trending hot-spot for young gentrifiers as a desirable alternative to renting in Manhattan. But they note that even $2,800 barely gets you a two bedroom apartment: “You have to shop to find a bargain; head to Red Hook, Crown Heights or Stuyvesant Heights, but don’t expect your dollar to go that far,” the paper wrote.

Crown Heights in particular has observed a steady climb in rent; where merely a couple of years ago a single bedroom could be had for as little as $900 a month, an identical apartment now commands a price tag of $1,400 or more per month. Looking for three bedrooms or more? Be ready to shell out upwards of $3,000.

May it be Hashem’s Will that very soon in our days we will have the major landlords of our community come together and decide that money is not everything and that we should cherish the opportunity to help our fellow Jews by making affordable housing in Crown Heights and through this major undertaking Hashem will look upon his children and smile because we show that we really care for one another and no $ sign will ever be in the middle of the Mitzva of Ahavas Yisroel and than 100% we will immediately be redeemed by Moshiach Now!

    @1,

Where were you 15 years ago when ” landlords of our community” had empty buildings and houses on st john past eastern parkway and no lubavitcher would even step foot in it?!. So now all of the sudden you want the landlords to be nice.

  • Move!

My MORTGAGE is $1400/m (taxes & insurance included) in Ft Lauderdale! and that’s on a 3 bedroom house! whoever pays that amount of rent..I dont know why they would stay in brooklyn!. Im not saying to move to Florida.. but just ANYWHERE is better!

  • Just wondering

Do you know how much utilities went up recently? Do you know how much taxes is up? Do you know how much it costs to fix the side of the house? Sorry landlords are not raking it in. Do you know what mortgage payments are? Do you know what the cost of upkeep is? Do you pay a Gardner? Did you pay $1,000 because the city decided to fix your sidewalk and billed you? What does a water main break cost? Please stop the jeoulosy because you don’t own a house and get some facts straight.

  • agree with #1

it is our fellow brothers jewish landlords that are responsible for making the rest of the community struggle.
to 5- most of us renters pay utilities too- and when is the last time you saw a gardener next to an apt building – most of us dont have a square inch of greenery.

There are many places in New Jersey, where you can buy a house ,a 4 bedroom house plus basement for 300K to 400K in a nice jewish neighborhood .Kids can go to learn to Morristown or Monsey. You have many opportunities to mekarev Ydn ,and we are talking about places much nicer than CH
BTW these houses are going to go up in price,so you make and excellent investment too

  • Do not pay.

It’s time to leave. Jewish families with children can rent twice the space for half the money in most other communities.

Let the vampires suck the blood of art school students and trust fund kids better…

  • $3000

Paid that mount for a condo in florida. 3 bedrooms 3 bathrooms. floor to ceiling windows in the living room and master bedroom off the ocean. Short lived though but paradise nonetheless.

  • 2800$??

move to NJ or move to Florida,
You buy a nice house for much less in a jewish community
Why do you have to live in a garbage trash in CH, with all the insecurity ?
At least, young couples, be smart

Law of Supply and Demand: as long as people believe that a certain place is the only place to live, then expect more of the same rate for living in overinflated property that continues to rake off the populace.

Somewhere a smile is creeping across Boss Bloomberg’s face. His ultimate plan for the entire city is working quite nicely isn’t it?
