Co-op Members Vote on Boycott of Israeli Products [Update: Boycott Proposal Defeated]

Members of the park slope co-op are currently debating whether to vote on a measure that, if approved, will ban all Israeli products from the progressive – ‘consumer owned’ – outlet. More than 2,000 members showed up at Brooklyn Tech High School in Fort Greene for a memorable meeting that could last hours. You can follow a live Twitter feed of the meeting here.

Update: Boycott proposal rejected, to the tune of 1,000 against to 600 in favor.

  • Not for Yidden

The fact that 600 plus voted to boycott Israel, shows that this Co-Op is no place for a Jewish person.

  • Wake up.

wow 653 said yes, it’s an eye opener to see how many white antisemites are around here in Brooklyn.

  • interesting

how interesting that you say you don’t care. But its ok, there are many of us who did. We went, we made kiddush HaShem, and we won.

  • to wake up

Not necessarily white anti-semites, possibly 553 self-hating apologetic Jews. A shame,in either case.

  • crazy...

thats a foolish assumption to paint each and every yes vote as anti semetic.

  • Very dangerous

This is a conformation that 653 anti smite’s are part of this group I’m Park Slope

In America in 2012 so many anti smite’s ?

  • eli ezagui

    this was NOT against jews

this was a boycott against the politics in the middle east.

some of these comments are both self serving and silly

most of the comments are not justified and ur lack of brains think this is antisemetic to boost your own insignificant ego

  • to #10

every “yes” vote was antisemitic or self-hating Jew. Communist Co-Op=Dangerous Liberalism

  • become a coop member

lets get a few hundred from our neighborhood to become members!

Obviously the boycott is Jew-hating. Policies in the Middle East? Don’t make me laugh. The only policies the boycott people care about is that Jews should not be able to sell their products. Unless you think Israelis are not Jews, GD FORBID.

    To Number 6:
I never knew that bigotry had a race. Perhaps you can calirfy what in G-d’s good name a “white antisemite” is.

  • co-op in CH

Let’s start a co-op in the soon to be vacant grocery store space on Empire Blvd. Someone with a lot of energy-start organizing. It will be tremendously successful.

This WASN’T a vote of whether to boycott Israeli products. Rather it was a vote on whether to hold a referendum on the matter. Some people voted for it in order to get over the matter once and for all and they were actually against the boycott.

pay close attention to what Yanki Teitlebaum was showing the public. Don’t say this was not important until you understand what he was saying.
