Bnos Chomesh First Graduating Class!

Parent, Uri Posner Addresses the gathered crowd.

History has been made!

On Monday, Tes Tammuz, Bnos Chomesh Academy held its very first 12th grade graduation.

Over 100 parents, relatives, friends and supporters came to participate in this momentous event. 8 students, some local, some from as far away as Israel, graduated with New York State Regent Diplomas in an emotional ceremony.

Of the 8 students in the class of 2010, 4 graduated with honors, meaning they maintained an A average in all of their studies over a 3 year period. Each student had a chance to say a few words about what she has achieved in her years at this unique school.

“ I have learned so much from my classmates, friends, teachers and principal,” said Shana Lyampe of Seagate. “I want to thank you all for being a part of my life.”

“Ever since the day I stepped foot into Bnos Chomesh, my life has taken a 180 degree turn for the better in every way imaginable,” declared Nechama Dina Efrat Keller of Crown Heights. “ I have found peace of mind, I have made my connection with the rebbe, and most importantly, I have personally accepted HaShem’s role in my life.”

Menucha Klar, daughter of Shluchim Rabbi Baruch and Devorah Leah Klar of West Orange, NJ described the school as a place where “the teachers are your teammmates.” She went on to offer a special thank you to the parents on behalf of all the students. “Thank you for the sacrifices you made to send us to this school. The joy we bring you will be your reward.” Many were moved to tears as each graduate walked into the audience and handed her mother a pink, long stemmed rose as a token of thanks.

Students were not the only speakers. Two parents, Rabbi Uri Posner and Rabbi Moshe Keller, spoke about the impact the school has had on the lives of their daughters. In an emotional address, Rabbi Keller spoke about how much Mrs. Gorkin, the principal, cares about the students. After giving several examples of this, he quipped, “Did I mention that she cares?”

Mrs. Gorkin reminisced about the dream she had so many years ago of opening up a small girls high school. She explained that she modeled her school after her own much loved high school experience at Bais Chana, in Worcester, MA, founded by Shluchim Rabbi and Mrs. Hershel Fogelman. “That was my high school experience and I wanted to pass it on to others,” said Mrs. Gorkin. She reminded the graduates that they can all stay connected by perpetuating the learning and the life lessons they have acquired while in school.

A slideshow, masterfully prepared by Chanale Chanin, depicted a collage of the last three years of learning, laughter and comeraderie at Bnos Chomesh. Graduate Chana Lieblich of Crown Heights, an honors student and Bnos Chabad leader, presented gifts to all of the teachers and to Mrs. Gorkin.

Bnos Chomesh graduates will now step out into the world armed with the tools they need for life, as learned through their wonderful and meaningful high school experience. Graduates will attend Seminaries and post high school programs throughout the world including Melbourne, Israel and Canada.

Mazel Tov to all the Bnos Chomesh graduates, their families and the staff!
