Moped Recovered By Shomrim A Precinct Away

A thief thought he had made off from Crown Heights with an expensive moped, but modern technology and willing volunteers foiled his plan.

Crown Heights Shomrim recieved a call on their emergency hotline reporting the theft of a moped on Thursday in Crown Heights. The owner reporting the theft was able to watch the location of his vehicle in real time, thanks to a GPS tracker on the moped.

Crown Heights Shomrim volunteers stepped up, using the tracked location to find the vehicle hidden between buildings. Discovered, the volunteers contacted the local NYPD precinct, and despite not normally operating in their area, were able to communicate with them and direct them to the vehicle.

“At approximately 4:00 p.m., Shomrim responded to a report of a stolen moped that was being tracked within the @NYPD73Pct area,” Crown Heights Shomrim wrote on social media. “Shomrim volunteers swiftly located the vehicle and worked in close coordination with the NYPD to recover it safely. Thanks to their joint efforts, the moped was promptly returned to its rightful owner.”

Despite the less-than-stellar area, the entire operation went without incident and the moped was transported back to the Crown Heights and reunited with its owner.
