The assailant arrested for the assault on a bochur over Shabbos has faced a judge, and was handed down a $100,000 bail, according to a person familiar with the proceedings.

According to reports, the angry man – described as a Black male in his 40s – initiated the incident by spewing hate and Gaza-related attacks at a father and his young son on Eastern Parkway. Noticing this, a bochur intervened, telling the man to calm down.

The assailant can be seen on video released by Crown Heights Shomrim turning on the bochur, yelling and swinging at him, ultimately knocking him to the ground and beating him.

Initial attempts to locate the perpetrator were unsuccessful, but officers searching the area soon caught up with him and placed him under arrest.

While facing a judge Monday, a $100,000 bond was slapped on. It is not known is the assailant was able to post the bond.

Crown Heights Shomrim had previously noted that “It has come to light that this individual was involved in two separate incident earlier in the week,” they wrote. “On Thursday evening, he was reported to have assaulted another bochur on Eastern Parkway. Additionally, on Friday morning, he was seen on New York Avenue and Crown Street, engaging in erratic behavior and blocking traffic. Despite police intervention in that case, the individual was not questioned or taken into custody after this encounter, something that may have well prevented today’s incident.”

  • Assessing Cause to Find Solution

Every random hate crime by an unhinged person should have standard questions:

Question #1) Where does the perp reside ? ( shelter? supportive housing?)

Question#2) How many prior convictions does he have ?

Question#3) Was he drug tested ? Was he high or drunk ?

Question #4) is he on govt funded SSI ?

Question #5) what did the DA charge him with ?

Ankle bracelets? Wall of Shame ?
