Arrest Made In Shabbos Assault In Crown Heights

Just a short time after the brutal attack on a Jewish man Shabbos afternoon in Crown Heights, officers of the NYPD found the attacker and arrested him.

According to reports, the angry man – described as a Black male in his 40s – initiated the incident by spewing hate and Gaza-related attacks at a father and his young son on Eastern Parkway. Noticing this, a bochur intervened, telling the man to calm down.

The assailant can be seen on video turning on the bochur, yelling and swinging at him, ultimately knocking him to the ground and beating him.

Initial attempts to locate the perpetrator were unsuccessful, but officers searching the area soon caught up with him and placed him under arrest.

Crown Heights Shomrim had previously noted that “It has come to light that this individual was involved in two separate incident earlier in the week,” they wrote. “On Thursday evening, he was reported to have assaulted another bochur on Eastern Parkway. Additionally, on Friday morning, he was seen on New York Avenue and Crown Street, engaging in erratic behavior and blocking traffic. Despite police intervention in that case, the individual was not questioned or taken into custody after this encounter, something that may have well prevented today’s incident.”
