Shomrim Releases Community Alert After Shabbos Assault

This past Shabbos, a troubling incident unfolded in our community. A man, described as a Black male in his 40s, verbally assaulted a father who was walking home from shul with his two children. The situation escalated when a bocher intervened to deescalate. Unfortunately, the situation quickly turned violent as the assailant physically attacked the young man, knocking him to the ground and continuing the assault. The assailant then chased him into a nearby schoolyard before fleeing the scene.

It has come to light that this individual was involved in two separate incident earlier in the week. On Thursday evening, he was reported to have assaulted another bochur on Eastern Parkway. Additionally, on Friday morning, he was seen on New York Avenue and Crown Street, engaging in erratic behavior and blocking traffic. Despite police intervention in that case, the individual was not questioned or taken into custody after this encounter, something that may have well prevented today’s incident.

The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to 911 and Shomrim. The safety and well-being of our residents are our top priority.
