Package Thief Arrested With Collaboration Between Shomrim and The NYPD

A package thief is cooling his heels in the slammer Tuesday after being caught in the act by an alert business owner and apprehended with a collaboration between Shomrim and the NYPD.

“We received multiple calls for help in regards to a stolen package in which the owner was keen on retrieving,” Crown Heights Shomrim wrote on social media. “Thanks to a fast response and great collaboration with @NYPD71Pct, the thief was placed under arrest.”

According to reports, Shomrim received multiple calls for an unknown situation on the street on East New York Ave around 10:00am and arrived to find the cause of the commotion being a package thief. The thief had in fact been caught in the act by the alert businessowner, who was also the victim of the theft.

Having arrived, the Shomrim volunteers followed the fleeing thief as he made his way onto Albany Ave and down towards Midwood Street. As he reached the area of Midwood Street the NYPD arrived and was directed by Shomrim to where the thief was. After a brief investigation, the thief was in handcuffs.

The businessowner, who was able to positively identify the thief, was also able to produce video footage of the actual theft, leaving to question as to what happened and leading the police to make an arrest.
