Fourth Arrest Made in Crown Heights Assault On Two Jewish Boys

The believed ringleader and person who threw the punches in the shocking attack on two Jewish boys in Crown Heights this March is finally seeing justice, as the NYPD says that they have arrested him.

“A fourth arrest has been affected in the brutal assault that took place at Carroll and Albany on 3/13/23,” Crown Heights Shomrim, who was instrumental in the arrests wrote on Twitter. “This is the most significant arrest, as this is the perp that broke the victims nose. Great teamwork by Shomrim, and @NYPD71Pct Detectives and community affairs unit.”

As previously reported on CrownHeights.info, the incident went down near the corner of Albany Ave and Carroll Street around 9:15pm Monday night, where multiple witnesses called Crown Heights Shomrim, reporting an assault by a gang on two Jewish boys.

In less than a minute, multiple Shomrim volunteers arrived, some remaining with the victims while others searched for the roving gang, reported to be five or six male teens.

Shomrim’s quick response, along with a witness who followed the gang as they fled North on Albany Ave past Eastern Parkway, allowed the volunteers to keep an eye on the gang as they waited for the police to arrive. Before they showed up, the gang entered a building of S. John’s Place, and thanks to the close surveillance, the Shomrim volunteers were able to identify the apartment that the gang went into.

The first officers to arrive were officers of the 77th Precinct, who were flagged down by the volunteers. Yet as the assault had taken place in the 71st Precinct, precious time was wasted waiting for them also to arrive, quashing the chance for a quick arrest.

The first arrest in the case took place just two days later, with Shomrim reporting it in an update posted to their Twitter account.

“Update: At this time, one perpetrator is under arrest and charged with attempted robbery and gang assault,” they wrote. “Great collaboration by our volunteers and @NYPD71Pct Detectives and officers. We hope to be able to advise of more apprehensions.”

The first arrest took place on Wednesday, Match 15th, with the second arrest having taken place on March 19th, last Sunday.

The third arrest took some more time, and was announced on March 27th.

The first of the gang arrested faced a stiff response from the New York Justice system, having been forced to place a bond on the condition of his release from custody. In the time of Justice Reform which mostly sees perpetrators walk without bail, this shows that the NYPD and District Attorney is taking this very seriously.
