Coral Springs Shliach Has His Minivan Stolen and Crashed by Thieves

Rabbi Yankie Denberg, Shliach in Coral Springs, Florida, was woken by the sound of banging on his door at 2:30am to learn that his minivan had been stolen by a thief and crashed.

“2:30 am we got woken up by a police officer banging on our door,” wrote Denberg on Facebook. “In short, our minivan had been stolen from our driveway by a thief who had been driving another stolen car. They were looking for another opportunity when the security guard from the next development called the cops on their suspicious vehicle.”

According to reports on the incident, the pair of car thieves had already scored once, driving around a stolen car in search of a second.

An alert security guard noticed the suspicious vehicle, notifying the police who quickly swarmed in.

The two thieves made an attempt to get away, with one of them jumping the Development where Rabbi Denberg lives in search of another getaway vehicle.

Unfortunately, Rabbi Denberg had left his car unlocked and his keys unsecured.

With a new car at his disposal, the thief attempted to make the getaway, but was cornered by responding police officers.

Instead of stopping, the thief rammed the minivan nose first into the back of a police car, totaling the Rabbi’s van.

“They caught the guy, but the front of our van was smashed pretty bad,” wrote Rabbi Denberg.

Finally back home at 5:00am, after completing sworn statements and waiting for a tow truck, Rabbi Denberg was wired.

“Boruch Hashem we are all safe and healthy,” he said. “If my physical possessions needed to be smashed, I am happy it was done without anyone I care about being inside the vehicle.”

“Besides that instinctive feeling of thanks I haven’t yet figured out the spiritual, moral lesson from this ordeal (I have till Friday to think about it.)” wrote Rabbi Denberg. “But there are two basic, yet important messages the that I want to share. First, lock your doors and take your keys inside. Second, is to appreciate how amazing our Coral Springs Police is. Every officer I dealt with last night was so professional, so kind. Next time you see an officer keeping us safe, make sure to say Thank You.”

The Coral Springs Police Department responded to the Rabbi’s thanks with their own thanks.

“Thank you Rabbi Yankie Denburg for your support of our department. We are sorry to hear of the unfortunate events that affected you and your family, but we are also so very glad to hear that you are all safe and secure. We want to thank you for helping us to remind our amazing community of how important it is to lock your vehicle and take all your valuables. We hope you were able to eventually get some rest. Thank you again for your support of our department and if there is anything else we can do, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.”
