At Least Three More Cars Broken Into Overnight In Crown Heights
by CrownHeights.info
No less than three cars had their windows broken overnight as an alarming spike in nighttime car break-ins plague the Crown Heights community.
The three vehicles broken into had been parked on East New York Ave between Troy and Schenectady overnight, and the owners found the broken windows Thursday morning.
“I do not keep valuables in the car,” one owner told CrownHeights.info, “so it had nothing to do with them seeing anything in the window.”
The car owner decided to make a call to the 71st Precinct and reported that the officer responded with “okay, as in there was nothing they can do.”
While each of these incidents may appear small by themselves, the sharp uptick of the break-ins are alarming the community. So far this month, no less than five vehicles had their windows broken and cars rummaged through, all in generally the same area of Crown Heights.
Also, while people may think that the damage would be covered under their car insurance, it is more complicated than that. If one were to put in a claim to their insurance, it won’t necessarily affect your premium, but it will cause them to report it to CarFax which will decrease the value of the vehicle significantly.
CrownHeights.info would like to remind all residents to make sure your vehicles are secured, and all valuables removed before leaving your vehicle.
If you have had a theft or break-in, please send any pictures and footage to news@CrownHeights.info, or to our WhatsApp at 718-285-8000.
