Stabbing Victim Released from Hospital; No Leads on Identity of Attacker

The NYPD’s 71st Precinct held its monthly community meeting Thursday evening, which was attended by dozens of members of the Crown Heights Jewish Community eager to hear of any developments regarding the stabbing of a newlywed young Jewish man on Empire Boulevard the previous week.

The Precinct’s Commanding Officer, George Fitzgibbon, iterated that the incident was very upsetting, and that he and his team of detectives were doing everything in their power to bring the perpetrator to justice.

That being said, the Commanding Officer shared that unfortunately at this time the department has no leads as to the identity, other than the surveillance footage obtained in the aftermath of the attack. Previous reports that an officer recognized the attacker from a summons he had issued to him turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

CO Fitzgibbon said detectives tracked the suspect – from surveillance camera to surveillance camera – all the way down Utica Ave. He said the aim is to find out where this man “lays his head down at night,” and once they succeed, it won’t be long before he is identified and apprehended.

The presentation was followed by a Q&A session, in which there was much participation by members of the community.

The next day, Friday, stabbing victim Yehuda Leib (Leiby) Brickman was released from the hospital. He returned to his parents’ home in Seagate, where he will continue to recover, G-d willing.

“It is very calming to know that he was released from the hospital before Shabbos,” his mother, Mrs. Rivkah Brickman, said. “I’m sure that in a home setting it will be easier for him to recover.”

In a message to the whole community, Mrs. Brickman thanked the community for their prayers and support, which she said had “definitely helped.” “I will continue to report good news with the progress of his recovery,” she said.

This morning, Monday, police officers posted flyers around the neighborhood seeking information on the attacker, and offering a reward for anyone who provides information that leads to his arrest.

no excuse for not finding the attacker.

Police are not doing there job.

Call the precinct daily and ask why he’s not been arrested yet.

They have good pictures of the bastard.

  • insane & shame !!!!!! 2500.00????

2500 is a reward for a lost cat – not one of ours…

let the big machers of the JCC put up 10.000 then we will find the stabber…

or are they waiting for ???? GD forbid….

if they can’t do more to protect us – they should vacate the seat for more capable ppl.

sooner or later a victim will sue them (collectively and personally…)

  • $2,500??

Make it $10,000 and post it all the way down Utica and in the neighborhoods where this wild animal is likely to reside.

  • bs

They know who he is he has a record it took them 3 weeks to post a reward? NyPd is putting little real effort & only providing a minimal response by some members of the community .not to worry therr is no real pressure & as a result no real effort par for the course you can bet if the situation was reverse Al Sharpton & company would be At the mike every day multiple times putting the pressure on & you can bet that with that pressure a scapegoat would have been found a long time ago.

    • Need the perp, not a "scapegoat"!

I hope you mean that the actual perp needs to be found, not merely finding a “scapegoat” as you say!

(If you don’t know what I mean here, please remember that a scapegoat is someone who takes the rap for a real perpetrator!)

  • dear Crown Heights.info

No-body knew about this meeting and it would have had a bigger affect if it was a full house. Next time there is something big like this, as a community service can you let us know about it.

  • If it were the opposite....

If it were the other way around, (G-d forbid) a Jew stabbed a black and the NYPD didn’t nab the attacker, the whole city would turn upside down, demonstrations, riots, even the national media would pick up on it…
But when its a Jew getting stabbed by a black everything is quiet, thank Heaven the guy survived by the skin of his teeth….

  • I agree with 7,8,9.

where is everyone!! if WE don’t care ,who will??/ make a protest!!! a big one!

  • Wandering Jew

Join your fellow Jews who are now coming to the Community Board Meeting to send a message to the local politicians that Jews voices and concerns need to be addressed.

Don’t rely on the current JCC, they are great for photo-ops and striking a pose in the latest fashions, but not for standing up against the establishment on Jewish issues ( e.g. – (1)Maple Street Mental Health Housing Project, (2) Mayor’s Current Upzoning – MIH & ZQA)

Location – MS 61 – 400 Empire Blvd ( Corner of Empire & NY Ave Across From 71st Precinct) – Parking on Empire and Nostrand as well.
    Time: 7:00 pm

( Fourth Tuesday of every month)

You will be very welcome as the rest of the community loves to see Jews standing up with them.
