3 Teens Arrested After Mugging Jewish Boy, Firearm Recovered

A 12-year-old Jewish boy was attacked and robbed by a group of five young black teens on Kingston Avenue. Working closely with the police Shomrim was able to affect the arrest of three of them and lead to the discovery of a firearm.

The incident occurred at around 5:15pm near Kingston Avenue and Union Street. Two 12-year-old boys were playing and riding a razor scooter when one went inside his house for a moment. A group of five black young teenagers saw the kid on the scooter and pushed him to the ground then took off with it.

Meanwhile when his friend returned seconds later he told him what happened and he in turn ran back inside and informed his father who promptly called Shomrim.

Armed with a decent description of the group a number of volunteers responded to the area and began searching. They quickly found them and followed from a distance while calling 911. Unafraid the group kept walking at a slow pace until they were confronted by officers at the intersection of Troy Avenue and Carroll Street where they attempted to flee the police and leaving the stolen scooter behind.

Assisting the responding police officers Shomrim also gave chase as the group split up and ran in different directions and managed to assist in apprehending two out of the three suspects.

Also, officers discovered a very realistic looking firearm in the possession of one of the teens. Turns out it was a functional pellet gun and once can only imagine what the purpose of carrying such an item would be.

During the chase one of the officers suffered a deep laceration on his hand when he fell down as one of the teens darted past him. The officer was treated back at the precinct and later at the hospital.

Of the three that were apprehended one was a female and two were males. They were charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon as well as resisting arrest.

    Shomrim are the best. But parents – please be aware that as the weather improves, there are more attacks, muggings & robberies. It’s time to go back to the old days when parents sat on the stoop to watch their kids. Don’t send your children alone to the store if they have to walk along quiet streets. And a HUGE warning to bochurim going to & from Troy Avenue, especially for night seder. My son was beaten up by a gang of Blacks on Montgomery St (Albany & Troy)

    It’s time every kid carried a cell phone (does not have to be Internet connected.) It used to be a toy of the spoiled kid, now it’s a necessity.

    The NYPD under the past leadership of inspector Lewis and now of inspector fitzgibbons has done a fine job in combating crime In our community. The police cannot guarantee that there will never new crime, but they have done well working with shomrim and responding to crimes and taking guns off the street etc…

    There are black Jews. Yiddish is not synonymous with Jewish. Until the question of how far back maternal descent goes is answered, no assumptions should be made.

    And no, I am not siding with the ungrateful idiots who are rioting against police; I consider them to be appallingly ignorant.

    But as we write articles and discuss things at our dinner tables, let us not be provoked into an us/them dichotomy. All these celebrity-craving rioters and thugs are trying to do just that; provoke a reaction.
