Teen Wanted for String of Armed Robberies in Crown Heights

Police have identified and are searching for a 16-year-old suspect in a string of robberies – some of them at gunpoint – in Crown Heights.

Richard Rogers, 16, was wanted in connection with seven robberies going back to September of last year, police said.

Rogers was described as a black male standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. His last known address was on Sterling Place in Brooklyn, police said.

Police said the suspect twice displayed a firearm in the robberies, and once threatened to shoot a victim. No one was injured in the incidents.

The robberies happened at the following times and locations:

• Around 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in front of 1491 St. John’s Pl. in Brooklyn. The suspect walked up to an 18-year-old woman, snatched her cellphone from her right hand, and fled on foot police said;

• Around 3:55 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the corner of Buffalo Avenue and Sterling Place in Brooklyn. The suspect came up to a 32-year-old man, displayed a black handgun, and demanded the victim’s property, police said;

• Around 3:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 in front of 1588 Sterling Pl. in Brooklyn. The suspect came up to an 18-year-old man, flashed a black firearm, and demanded his cellphone, police said;

• Around 2:35 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at the corner of Buffalo Avenue and Park Place in Brooklyn. The suspect came up to an 16-year-old boy and took his wallet from his back pocket, police said;

• At 9:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, in front of 1608 Sterling Pl. in Brooklyn. The suspect bumped into a 38-year-old man walking down the street and took the victim’s cellphone from his pocket, police said;

• At 10:51 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 127 Utica Ave. in Brooklyn. The suspect came up to an 18-year-old man, asked if he was a gang member, demanded his cellphone, and threatened to shoot him, police said;

• At 5:39 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, in front of 1441 St. John’s Pl. in Brooklyn. The suspect snatched cash from an 18-year-old woman’s hands, police said.

    This man mugged me about 2 months ago. I thought he was 18-21.He took my phone from me at about 6:30 pm.

    He even robbed some in front 127 Utica Ave which is the 77th precinct. This guy has gut to pull shtick in front of a police station.

    @Leib comment #8, was that in the 77th Precinct or 71st? If it was the 77th, they are slow as snails. Couldn’t stop a crime in progress if it happened under their noses.
