Suspect Apprehended Following Wild Crime Spree

A 30-year-old Queens man is in custody following a violent crime spree in Crown Heights. The incident began with a car-jacking on Eastern Parkway, escalating into a shooting near Kingston Avenue and ending with a home invasion on Sterling Place – where he was finally apprehended and his firearm was recovered.

The incident began Saturday afternoon at around 5:30pm on Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue where 30-year-old Clinton Lawson, a Queens resident, carjacked a black 2010 Toyota Corolla at gun point, forcing two occupants – a man and woman – out of the car and fled.

Lawson then ran over a 75-year-old man at the intersection of Kingston Avenue and S. Johns Place and crashed into a parked Mercedes sedan. The owner of the Mercedes confronted Lawson who pulled his gun and fired at the man – missing him – and fleeing.

Once again Lawson carjacked another car at the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and Sterling Place, forcing two occupants from a Nissan SUV at gun point and fleeing, only to crash into parked cars once again two blocks later at the intersection of Rogers Avenue.

Lawson then reportedly ran into a home on Sterling Pl. and attempted to hide from police officers. Residents of the house chased him out and he in turn attempted to blend into a crowd.

The owner of the home later informed officers that Lawson entered the home, and she yelled for him to get out. When searching the area, they discovered a .25 caliber semi-automatic hand gun.

Police sources said that Lawson will face the following charges: robbery in the first degree while displaying a firearm, assault with intent to cause serious injury with a weapon, burglary, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated unlicensed operating motor vehicle and operator leaves scene of accident.
