The off-duty sergeant and two cops charged with assaulting a suspect in Brooklyn knocked their prisoner to the ground and kicked him while he was handcuffed and down, police sources revealed yesterday.

The trio, assigned to the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights, allegedly roughed up the man after uniformed police had arrested him for breaking into the personal car of the off-duty sergeant.

Not content with having the suspect, Gaspar Alcade, in shackles, Sgt. Gregory Abrahams allegedly punched him in the face.

Alcade, 47, fell to the ground and was then set on by police officers Mark Zajac and Chris Kirch, who allegedly kicked him.

Sources told The Post that an off-duty cop spotted Alcade breaking into the car on Lincoln Place in Park Slope around 2:30 a.m. Friday and called 911.

Uniformed cops from the 78th Precinct swooped in and nabbed Alcade in the front seat of the sergeant’s 1998 Isuzu.

They determined that the car belonged to a cop and found its owner at a party in a bar around the corner.

The trio left the party and then allegedly attacked Alcade.

Police said Alcade was not seriously hurt and was taken straight to central booking, where he was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, criminal mischief and attempted grand larceny auto. He was arraigned yesterday.

The three cops were charged with misdemeanor assault and released with desk appearance tickets. They were suspended without pay and relieved of their guns and shields.

With eight aliases and 14 prior arrests for offenses including larceny and weapons possession, Alcade has served two stints in prison, one for a robbery for which he served eight years of a 15-year maximum sentence.

Since July 2005, he has been arrested five times.

Police brutality happens every day. Thats why there are so many Federal Civil Rights suites. Still, they never arrest themselves.

Thier is a choice one can make as to turn to a life of good as opposed to, continue a life of crime. many make the right choice yet others stray. I totally inclined to punishment, alternatively I am a very logical man. Thier are cops so all they really needed to do was arrest the man. that is thier job and the rules of engagement. Everyone has the right to defend onesself but the over dramatics this individuals displayed is a deplorable. And further more its unprofessional to uniform and the finest police force in the world in my oppinion.
