Man Attacked by Rowdy High School Students

At about 3:30pm Tuesday, Shomrim received a call that a young Jewish man was attacked and hit in the face by several high school teenagers near the corner of East New York and Troy Avenues.

Shomrim arrived at the scene and assisted the victim with his injuries, though he declined further medical attention. Unfortunately, he was unable to identify his attackers, as they had blended in with a rowdy group of about 25 teenagers on their way home from the nearby public high school.

The Shomrim volunteers followed the group as it made its way down Lefferts Ave. convinced that they were up to no good. Sure enough, the teens were seen throwing sticks into the street at passing vehicles.

The volunteers called the police, who arrived almost immediately. Seeing the police, the teenagers ran in all directions, but a few were apprehended by the officers.

The victim was brought to the scene, but he affirmed that none of the apprehended teens were involved in the attack on him. They were released after a stern warning from the police.

Since the incident, Shomrim has – and will continue to for the next few days – patrolled the vicinity of the attack during school dismissal hours, to ensure that the incident is not repeated and show any potential troublemakers that the community takes safety with the utmost seriousness.

They need to a better job of supervising dismissal. And the cops need to be on corners dispersing crowds & watching.
