Assailant Apprehended by Police and Bystanders

A wild scene unfolded on Kingston Avenue earlier this afternoon, when a group of construction workers, cops and store employees tackled a young black male assailant and placed him under arrest.

According to witnesses, the incident began at around 2:30pm on S. Johns Place near Albany Avenue, where the suspect violently assaulted another individual, possibly trying to mug him as well. The unlucky suspect then fled down Albany Avenue and turned onto Union Street – with a plain-clothes police officer chasing after him.

Construction workers on the corner of Union and Albany joined in the chase, but ultimately it was a worker from Kahan’s Grocery who tripped the suspect, causing him to fall to the ground right at the feet of nearly a dozen cops assigned to keep our neighborhood safe.

Witnesses said that police found  a metal pipe or bat in his possession. He was arrested and charged with Felony Assault, and was taken to the 77th Precinct.
