This rise in such occurrences is very alarming. NYS VTL codes mandate that any car on the road must be covered by liability insurance, the moment a driver flees his car and claims it stolen his insurance is no longer obligated to pay for you damages. The owner of the car that was parked complained to a CrownHeights.info reporter telling him that the officers said that there was no crime committed here, since there were no injuries. The owner of the car said that as far as he understood that fleeing the scene of an accident is a crime in itself.

What does VTL stand for?
witness
Two black males one wearing black and red the other wearing grey. They fled into the alley behind Brooklyn and Balfour. They weren’t chased. The police care heard the saw the accident and just continued blindly.
The car had to be going over 80.

This is sad. Why is nothing being done to stop this?

For future reference, “hit and run” means that a person was hit, rachmana litzlan.
Don’t scare us needlessly!
Enough already
Why do we Crown Heights Jews just sit here and take this junk from the Police whose salaries we pay through our taxes? In other neighborhoods, the Jews get together and protest and embaress the leaders of the local precints into submission. Yet, when an incident happens we don’t do that.
Let’s put aside the stupid Vaad Hakol politics or loyalties to whichever Rabbi that is tearing us apart and aknowledge that we as Jews are all responsible to make sure the Police stops this craziness

The axles and ball joints were destroyd. The power steering, a wheel and its rim were busted as well.
Thanks to Crown Heights Info for reporting on the crime in this hood

Personally I would advise everyone who lives in CH to get comprehensive insurance. That way you are covered for anything from a falling tree branch to asteroids to a case such as the above – insurance covers it all. The week after we bought a new van we came out in the morning and the wing mirror was gone (!) and the side of the van was all scratched up……..(as they say, welcome to New York!) and the insurance, since it’s comprehensive, covered that.
To RBA
I can’t agree with RBA.
First of all, in NY it’s often the case that comprehensive insurance will cost more than the vehicle is worth, especially if it’s used.
Second, anytime you file a claim with your insurance company, they’ll raise your rates to compensate; if you file “too many” claims (and the definition of “too many” varies from one insurer to the next), they may decline to renew your policy at all.
No, I think you’re better off with basic insurance, and just paying for repairs out of pocket.
