  • What about the 8 year old!!!???

That bochur chased after those thugs for what? A gaming toy? Is he nuts? His life for a gaming toy? And did he leave the 8 year old little boy alone on the train when he ran up after them? Or did he drag the little boy with him in his dangerous pursuit? Honestly! What wss that young man thinking of? Ridiculous!

  • Give It Up

When my son was mugged on the train a few years ago, the police (and his parents!) were pleased he gave up his watch & hat. They are replaceable. Our son isn’t.

NOTHING is worth risking your life. These lowlifes are used to shooting or stabbing just for the fun of it. If you argue or refuse, you’re crazy. Maybe dead, also.

  • dont judge!!!

dont judge u never know its disgusting maybe he did take the 8 year old i think u should go bak to skool

  • Mom

I’m the mother of the 8 year old boy and I would appreciate if you did not jump to conclusions. The Bochur was in touch with me during the entire ordeal. They did not chase after them in a dangerous manner, they went directly to the police officers. I think children need to learn that they cannot stand by idly when victimized. It is our right as citizens to stand up for ourselves. The bochur in no way, shape, or form tried to take justice into his own hands. On the contrary, my son was made to feel like a hero by the Police Chief. He tried on his hat, was shown handcuffs and was treated with kid gloves. Please don’t judge others until you have walked in their footsteps.

    Dear Mom:
I am not here to criticize, or to judge. I agree with you that one should not stand by idly when victimized.
But, my mouth dropped open as soon as I got to the end of the first sentence of the story: “The Bochur…….continued playing on his PSP”
I was always taught not to play with expensive items in the open. A couple of years back someone was sitting outside their apt. working on their laptop and had it stolen – my first question was ‘why are you on a laptop OUTSIDE?’ No one would think of opening their wallet in the street and counting out $100 bill, so why do people play games on expensive electronic devices / cell phones without thinking twice.
So, while I do commend your son, I would also urge parents to impress upon their kids that they should not take out expensive items in public. I have seen people on the train with high-end digital cameras showing their friends pictures on the screen – that is also asking for trouble. As is taking out an ipod video – all these things are tempting fate.
Your son is a hero, undoubtedly, but in future should keep these things hidden.
As a cop once said to me “this is New York – like it or leave it”, and that’s just part of life in the City.

    Thanks Mom for your clarification.
Now that these perps are going to face justice, the 8 year old (who will become older BEZ”H) will also be safer.
Thanks to the Bochur for not letting this pass.

  • Curious

I would also like to thank you Mom for clarifying. That being said, B”H that the criminals were apprehended, and that the bochur went to police in a responsible fashion.

My secondary question is: why did he have a gaming device? What happened to learning in the spare time?

I agree that playing a PSP on the train might be asking for trouble. But I disagree greatly with those that say to give in..

Its a chilul hashem and just tells the goyim we are easy targets.. see the famous story of the maharam of rothenberg.

In north miami beach where my family lives and where I am now for a few weeks visiting. Crimes has gone crazy here and its a middle class neighberhood.

Well, I have a gun here and to whoever tries to rob my house or my neighbers house will be looking down the barrel of a gun. that is the only way they will learn.

And when they see that frum jews have guns, word will get out fast and they will avoid frum jews.

    RE: elchonon hellinger

Having a gun isn’t the answer either the person could also use the same gun on you or me.

We need some better souloutions to deal with these problems cause we have share the world togeter.

And i agree people shouldn’t play expensive vido games on the nyc subways.

  • anonymous

everyones saying not to take a psp- what are you supposed to do on a train?
The way the boy acted was very brave!

  • Who cares?

I agree that expensive game boys and other devices should not be exposed on a train, but I dont think it is anyones business what the Bochur was doing in his spare time. You people are missing the point.
