Crown Heights – a Haven for Car Part Thieves

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Over Shabbos a number of cars were broken into and their airbags were taken, an occurrence which unfortunately, in our neighborhood, barely raises an eyebrow. But an alarming new trend, thief’s ‘shopping’ for parts at night, should have car owners really worried.

This Shabbos in addition to the airbag thefts, high end cars were targeted for other parts such as mirrors and mirror glass.

* On Montgomery Street between New York and Brooklyn Avenues thieves stole the mirrors off a Nissan vehicle. An unknown amount of damaged was caused.

* On Montgomery Street near Albany Avenue a Lexus ES350, which was parked in a driveway, had the glass from both his mirrors stolen, causing over $1000 in damage.

* On Crown Street near Brooklyn Avenue thieves made off glass from the mirrors of a high end Mercedes Benz, causing over $2000 in damage.

All these incidents took place on Friday night.

“The thief is most defiantly a local who is comfortable in this area” said a Shomrim spokesman, adding “that based on the types of items he is stealing, the parts are being used to repair other cars.”

Unlike Terrance Nelson, who just steals loose change and electronics, this thief is stealing parts that cost thousands of dollars, in a fashion in which he can reuse the parts.

Police have never made an arrest relating to the airbag thefts in Crown Heights.

Attempts to contact that police regarding this new disturbing trend went unanswered.

A challenge to those ‘big-wig’ property developers that we have in our midst:
Build a multi-level secured parking facility for the community–
a facility such as this is available in any substantial community and there is no reason for the yiden of crown heights to suffer the inadequacies of our favorite precint..
We have a site that has been sitting unused for years..
The lot on the corner of Crown & Schenectady..
    Recently in the news…

the reports for all these occurrences and others get tossed out in order to make it look like a safer neighborhood
call up a week later they usually can’t even find your reports they do it to keep the numbers down for the crime stats in order that the top brass can keep their jobs this has been going on for a while the only thing they are really good at is getting doughnuts you should see them zoom down empire blvd going through light’s and making a u turn by doughnut store or writing up frivolous tickets in the jewish section of ch never by the blacks if they get rid of the 71 precinct we will have a lot less tickets and about the same amount of crime

The only answer is to leave all the windows of the car open. At least you won’t have an added expense of repairing the window. I personally take out the air from my tires every night, making it harder to steal them. In the morning I refill them with air from portable compressor. So it takes me an extra hour, but it is worth, not to have the aggrivation. I guess now I will take off my mirrors every night. If they start stealing the doors, that’s when I throw in the towel. Another trick is to leave an empty box of donuts, that way they think the car belongs to a cop. No good , you mighty a cop angry for thinking there were donuts, and get a ticket. Welcome to CHelm Heights the Shechuna thats has it all.

Wealthy owners of upscale cars need two cars. Park an old undesirable car that no one wants on the CH street over night then drive it to a secure area to pick up the expensive one.

Or sell it and use car service.
