Beloved Brooklyn Baker Shot Dead

NY Post

A beloved baker — whose Brooklyn store was a staple in his West Indian community — was shot dead last night and his anguished relatives are asking for the gunman to come forward.

Mervyn Johnson, 68, had finished up his workday at Merv’s Bakery and was steps away from his home when a thug opened fire and struck a bullet into his head at 8:29 p.m. last night on the corner of Lefferts Avenue and Brooklyn Avenue, police said.

Johnson, a married father with a grown daughter, died at the scene. The killer fled the scene empty-handed, police sources said.

“What I would say on behalf of the family is, whoever did this, please come forward and be a man and accept what you did because you know you did wrong and I don’t think you will be able to sleep with what you did.” Alvin Johnson, 66, the victim’s only brother said outside Merv’s Bakery this morning.

Meanwhile, customers gathered to pay tribute for Johnson at his Crown Heights bakery, a business he owned for 30 years.

I am proud of this website for writing true stories that are not only about the jewish community in crown heights but about all the residents in crown heights.

A hard working beloved african americen neighbor of ours was brutally murdered. Such a tragedy affects the entire neighborhood.

Everyone must come together after this tragedy and work together to make our neighborhood safer.

I hope the murderer is swiftly caught by the police and brought to justice.

My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Merv Johnson , may he rest in peace.

Isn’t Leferts and Brooklyn where Bais Rivka is. Do they have cameras? They should.
