Watchtowers Deployed

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — In response to the attack on a 10-year-old Jewish boy the NYPD deployed two watchtowers in the neighborhood.

One tower was deployed on Albany and Union while another on Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn. Sources in the police department said that this is a measure taken to try and give people a sense of security, and in the past the watchtower has proven to be an effective crime reduction tool.

Veeeeeeeeeeeeery nice, right by the Women’s Mikvah… I think they should be spoken to about moving the location of the tower, maybe somewhere near where the incident ACTUALLY occurred!!

omg how about actually putting one where the incident actually happened!!!!
it’s like the chelm story of the people searching for an item inside the building even though it was lost outside in the yard because “it’s brighter indoors”!! it doesn’t make sense!!

  • two more - in the more dangerous areas

Can they put two more watchtowers down at the other end of Crown Heights? I live by schenectedy/Utica, and other’s live out by maple/Lefferts.

OMG!!!! There is just absolutely no pleasing anyone EVER!!! When nothing is done after a crime is committed, everyone rants and raves, that nothing is ever done, etc etc. . when something IS done, to try and improve the situation, AGAIN, complaints, critisism, and sarcastic comments is ALL one reads and hears!!! How SAD. . . as I said, theres just NO PLEASING ANYONE, NO MATTER WHAT< HOW WHEN OR HOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thats our community today!!!!!

You have to dig down to find out what’s going on here:

“Sources in the police department said that this is a measure taken to try and give people a sense of security …”

    Exactly. Security theater.

The one right outside the women’s Mikvah makes me very uncomfortable. And what’s the point of putting the other one outside Oholei Torah. Yeshivas Erev isn’t held there. It would make more sense to put it on Kingston between Empire and Lefferts. It really seems as if the police are laughing at us when they do silly things like this. I try to be supportive of the police, but my patience is wearing thin. I have an 11 year old boy who goes to Yeshivas Erev and this story concerns me greatly. I hope the boy is ok.

Uh, a radical suggestion for NYPD:

Um, maybe, consult with the community leaders, like, maybe, the Vaad Hakohol or somebody like that, and, um, maybe, put these things where they do the most good? Like, maybe, Kingston and Lefferts, “Makom Muchin L’Paroniyos”, where the boy was injured?

Nah. WAY too radical. We’ll (NYPD) just keep doing what WE think is logical. You’ll eat your oatmeal and like it. And, here’s some more tickets, because you’ve been SUCH nice children.

    Blaaaah.

When you give someone a finger, at least let it be the right finger. We aren’t asking here for a hand, we are asking that the finger should be placed at the scene of the crime, not the furthest most possible distance away from the crime!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Union & Albany Resident

I live right on the corner here on Albany and Union. There are always dozens of cops strolling or standing around. Since this corner is mostly Jewish, it is quiet and peaceful.
The tower here is a good joke.
We really DO NOT need a live recording of every woman attending the mikvah (which is what the watchtower does!)…

  • APPALLED BY THE COPS- STUPIDITY

i am just wondering if they are looking for such populated places why dont they put one right in front of 770, and another on kingston and union,
HOW THICKHEADED ARE THE COPS, if they put one on union and schenectady and one on albany and lefferts, they might stop some crime, but our genius NYPD decided to put them in the “time square” of crown heights
im willing to bet the kid that got beaten up could deal with this case a lot better than simonetti

  • would be nice if -can be placed properly

I’m sorry to be the damper here on people’s spirits, but the one put up by Ohelei Torah is NOT because of the incident – it’s because of the Shluchim’s Convention.

When I drove to pick up my son today, the service road leading to Ohelei Torah was blocked off with a police man and blockades (I don’t know what to do tomorrow with my car when I drop off and pick up my son). There was a second policeman standing by the walkway of the school (the street level exit) and a third policeman standing by the steps leading up to the Convention. The convention starts today, and all of this aparatus was NOT put up yesturday.

When the convention will end it will be brought down.

Let them place one by Schenectedy and another down by Lefferts.

  • AH POSHTAR YID

when is this community going to learn the nypd does not care about jews who dont get along with each other . period
when we be united like boro park and williamsburg we will see sucsess

why cry so much, why don’t the vaad hakohol install cameras with the help of the residents all over crown heighgts, every block, every house. the criminals will get the message when they cannot do anything without being caught.

  • Shmuel

I have a question to my fellow Crown Heights Lubavicher friends. Rebbe is no longer with us, and the situation is quite bad in CH, and is becoming worse daily. Why could you not as a community just pick up things and move to Jersey into county or something… I’ll support you physically and financially!

  • EXCELLENT PARENTING!!!

What great parenting!!! We all know what the streets are like and this kid was allowed to be walking alone by himself at 8:15pm with no adult supervision!!!!
It could have been way worse. He could have been abducted by some sick child snatcher. Why blame the police when obviously the parents don’t care enough for their child.
I can guarantee my children don’t walk by themselves at night.
